Sayeed Aslam A Resident Of Harrison Ward

My name is Sayeed Aslam a resident of Harrison ward in Wyndham council since 2013.

I was born in Hyderabad India and came to Melbourne as a post graduate student and my story is no different to any other as we all first generation migrants share almost the same journey.

I am an Australian by choice and not by chance. A choice that I have made over every other country in the world leaving behind the loved ones has not been an easy decision.

As a first-generation migrant the challenges I face are unique and only recently have I started to realise that getting the citizenship was not the end of the journey but actually is the beginning.

As for my education I completed my education in engineering graduation from India and have done masters in Australia. Below are my hard-earned education degrees.

HACO is a not for profit organisation with a mission to help community members in the event of death of a family member or friend/acquaintance, who are not in a financial position to cover the funeral costs.

I am very lucky and honoured to be associated with HACO from the scratch. While we have many organisations, who are working for the day to day needs of the community. There are few areas of needs which are always neglected due to the complexities involved and taboo attached to such issues.

HACO not only believes in women leadership but also supports & encourages it by putting things in action. Two of our most significant leadership roles are led by women. HACO is the first organisation in the Hyderabadi community to have taken such initiatives and assigned such leadership roles to women leaders. HACO entire team supports and mentors the as required.

As I have worked extensively on the ground and almost negligible online with very few photos and evidence of what I do and how I contribute to the community, I have a very good understanding of the challenges faced by not for profit organisation & the individuals who dedicatedly devote their time, money, efforts & intellectual capital to make a difference in their own individual capacities for community service. Onlythose individuals who have worked and contributed to such causes can feel and envision the challenges.

Some of the challenges faced by such organisations & individuals are

  • Very limited Government Funding.
  • Instable Income.
  • Community pressure to show Results.
  • Very slow decision-making process as everyone needs to agree.
  • Convincing other community members to contribute and work towards the cause.
  • Balancing between personal & social life.

I believe working on the ground as I am a grass root level worker
